An essential part of helping others is the fundraising aspect, and U of C Oxfam does its' share in this importent task. Most of our events have a fundraising aspect, in that money collected is given over to the national office, either for general works or for a specific program. We also have participated in fundraisers for the local areas, with the money to benefit local organizations. Some events from last year, and where the money went:
The Mid-South Hunger Walk: We were among the groups that participated in the planning committee of the Hunger walk, which raised funds for the benefit of mid-South side churches and hunger relief organizations.
The Break-Fast: In addition to being an educational event, the break-fast also is a fundraiser for Oxfam, last year, the money raised was earmarked for use in Oxfam's programs in Eritrea.
Penny Drive: The Penny Drive lasts all winter quarter long, and uses the help of campus coffee stores and cafes. Last year, the proceeds benefited the country of Rwanda.
Hunger Banquet: The Hunger Banquet also serves as a fund-raiser. Last year, the proceeds were to be used in programs in the Indian subcontinent.
